I live in northern Illinois, not far from the Wisconsin border. I work part-time, walk a lot with my border collie, Marley, and share a passion for music with my husband.
I used to make jewelry, but got bored with that a few years ago and was looking for my next creative outlet. I got interested in quilting by watching Simply Quilts. It’s strange that quilting appealed to me because I was extremely sewing challenged … couldn’t sew a straight line and spent more time ripping out stitches than sewing! Just the thought of making a traditional quilt with precise cutting and sewing was enough to send me to the loony bin!! Then I discovered Quilting Arts magazine and fell in love with art quilting.
In early 2012 a friend talked me into taking a six-week traditional quilting class with her. I struggled but finished the project and said no to making another pieced quilt. Then I started going to quilt stores with my friend, who has been cranking out the quilts since our class, and her enthusiasm rubbed off on me.
I’m now enjoying making pieced quilts. I’m finding that having both pieced and art projects going at the same time is a good thing for me!
